Botox® Cosmetic

botox tampaBotox® Cosmetic is a brand name for purified Botulinum toxin, a protein complex derived from the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum.

The use of Botox® for cosmetic purposes has grown in popularity, making it the most popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the world. When injected into the skin, Botox® works to reduce wrinkles caused by aging and facial muscle contraction.

Treatment Applications for Botox® Cosmetic

The most common indications for the use of Botox® injections are cosmetic in nature. Examples of these include:

  • Glabellar lines/frown lines
  • Crow's Feet
  • Forehead lines

However, in Tampa Botox® has also been used therapeutically for treating muscle spasms, excessive sweating, and other conditions.

Your Tampa Botox® Injection Procedure

When treating you with Botox in Tampa, Dr. Albear will first select the points of injection. Though it is usually not needed, a topical anesthetic can help numb the pain of injection. The effective dose depends on the mass of muscle being injected; a larger muscle typically requires a higher dose. Upon injection, the toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles so that they relax and smooth out. You will see the effect almost immediately, and observe how it improves over the next days. Treatment time is only about 15 minutes.

What to Expect After Botox® Injection

After Botox® injections, you can expect to return to your normal activities immediately. Dr. Albear may recommend that you remain upright for 6 hours afterward and avoid alcohol for a short period of time. The final results of your Botox® injection will be seen within 5-7 days, and will last about 4-6 months. To maintain the correction, Botox® injections should be repeated about every 3-4 months.

Possible side effects include: redness, bruising, stinging around the injection sites, nausea, fatigue, flu -like symptoms, headache and eyelid droop.
