The effective dose depends on the mass of muscle being injected; a larger muscle typically requires a higher dose. Upon injection, the toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles so that they relax and smooth out. You will see the effect almost immediately, and observe how it improves over the next days. Treatment time is only about 15 minutes.
What to Expect After Botox® Injection
After Botox® injections, you can expect to return to your normal activities immediately. Dr. Albear may recommend that you remain upright for 6 hours afterward and avoid alcohol for a short period of time. The final results of your Botox® injection will be seen within 5-7 days, and will last about 4-6 months. To maintain the correction, Botox® injections should be repeated about every 3-4 months.
Possible side effects include: redness, bruising, stinging around the injection sites, nausea, fatigue, flu -like symptoms, headache and eyelid droop.
