When to Consider a Buttock Lift
Individuals who undergo buttock lifts share one or more of the following characteristics. They have buttocks that are:
- Flat
- Misshapen
- Carrying excess skin
- Uneven buttock crease and fold
Many candidates for a buttock lift exhibit misshapen buttocks after massive weight loss. Others may have contour deformities resulting from an injury or previous surgery.
Surgical Procedures
Skin tightening
Surgery may involve removal of excess skin and fat from the buttocks to improve contour. To perform this procedure, your plastic surgeon will make an incision along the lower back, from hip to hip to access the buttock fat. Once the fat is removed, the excess skin is pulled below the incision, tightening or lifting the buttocks and outer thighs. Finally, the extra skin is then removed.
Liposuction
For a fuller, more curvaceous buttocks shape, Dr. Albear might use liposuction as a technique to remove fatty tissue from areas of your body such as the abdomen, flanks, and thighs. In this procedure, the fat is suctioned out from the donor site(s), then injected into the desire area through small incisions and a fine cannula. This procedure is commonly called a "Brazilian Butt Lift."
Buttock Implants
Alternatively, Dr. Albear may recommend surgical placement of silicone gel buttock implants that he will insert under the gluteus maximus muscle. This procedure is performed either under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and lasts about 2 hours.
What to Expect After Surgery
For all buttock lift treatment approaches, Dr. Albear will likely ask that you avoid exercise and increased activity for approximately 3 weeks. You may be asked to wear an elastic compression garment for a several days post-surgery. Temporary drains may be used to remove excess fluid buildup during recovery. Individuals who receive buttock implants typically resume their normal activities after about 4-6 weeks. Follow-up appointments will be schedule to ensure that all incision areas are healing properly.
